FAQ

FAQ

  • What is dry cleaning?

Dry cleaning is similar to washing but without the water. Dry cleaned garments are cleaned in a machine that looks like a giant washer with one major difference, instead of using water or anything water based, a solvent is used that does not contain any water. Custom Care Dry Cleaning Tallahassee uses a Eco-friendly solvent that is 100% bio-degradable.

Three things cause shrinkage in garments, heat, mechanical action, and moisture. By removing moisture from the cleaning process and replacing it with a liquid that contains no water, garments like your wool pants, or silk blouse can now be safely cleaned without shrinkage. Materials like wool and silk generally have to be dry cleaned. By eliminating moisture from the cleaning process we are able to get your garments clean while extending their life all without shrinking anything.

  • Is dry cleaning really dry ?

Dry cleaning isn’t dry at all. It is called “dry cleaning” because mostly solvents are used in place of water. Water is considered “wet”. However, it is even more confusing when you consider that most dry cleaners consider wet cleaning a form of dry cleaning. Wet cleaning uses water as a solvent and very special equipment that controls the chemicals and agitation. Many ‘dry clean only’ items can be cleaned in this manner. If you were to look through the front window of one of today’s dry cleaning machines, it looks like a large front loading washing machine, and the clothes appear to get very wet. They get “wet” by dry cleaning solvent. Dry cleaning solvents remove oily stains with out shrinking mast fabrics. All dry cleaning machines (because of EPA regulations) are now cleaned and dried in the same machine. It is not possible to open a machine mid-cycle (such as to drip dry). There is always heat and agitation during the cleaning process. How long does it take

  • How long does it take

We ask for at least two days to clean and press your garments, however we can process them faster if requested. If you bring your garments in by 9 am , they can be ready by 5 pm. If you bring your garments in after that, your garments can be ready the next production day by 5pm (there is no production on Saturday and we are closed on Sunday). Some items such as wedding gowns and comforters take longer.

  • Does dry cleaning clothing often result in it becoming un-wearable more quickly?

Frequent dry cleaning prolongs the life of your garments and textiles. Since some stains are invisible at first, or may simply go unnoticed, it’s important that you consult a dry cleaner about your garments on a regular basis to ensure that irreparable damage is not done over time. This damage includes the danger of stains setting in, insects eating the fabric, and ground-in dirt and soil acting as a sandpaper-like abrasive that will rapidly wear down fibers.

  • I like to have all of my clothes dry cleaned. If the care label say’s “washable” can it be dry cleaned?

The dyes and/or sizing may be solvent suitable and may require wet cleaning for best results. Yet again there may be other safe methods of processing a garment. The manufacturer is required to list only one safe method. With the experience, training and expertise of our dry cleaning technicians we can properly test each of these garments to ensure that you’r clothing wardrobe is properly cared for.
